In February 2016, the Executive Committee unanimously agreed to adopt a policy for the Statewide Misdemeanant Confinement Program (SMCP) to require at least one of the persons designated as the Point of Contact to attend the North Carolina Sheriffs’ Association annual training class in order to continue participation as an SMCP “receiving” county. At the same time, the Executive Committee strongly encouraged “sending” counties that do not receive inmates to send their Point of Contact person to the annual training class as well. This policy is to ensure that important information about the SMCP is conveyed to the appropriate person in each county who is actively handling SMCP offenders and the required SMCP paperwork.
In January 2018, the Executive Committee authorized the NCSA to conduct a one-time makeup SMCP training class this year only, to provide an opportunity to attend the class for those unable to attend a class conducted last fall.
Please note that “receiving” counties who did not attend a fall training class and do not send a representative to this makeup training class will not receive any further SMCP inmates until after the completion of an upcoming annual training class in the fall of 2018.
The training will be held on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 in Wake County at the Wake Tech Public Safety Education Campus, 321 Chapanoke Road, Raleigh, North Carolina.
Check-in will begin at 9:00 a.m. The training session will run from 9:30 a.m. until approximately 3:30 p.m. Lunch and instructional materials will be provided ONLY to those who have registered in advance.
