Position: Director – Criminal Justice Programs
Job Description and Responsibilities

The Director – Criminal Justice Programs is responsible for the overall oversight of all criminal justice programs, which includes the Statewide Misdemeanant Confinement Program (SMCP), Statewide Response to Civil Unrest Program, Courthouse Security Program, Traumatic Incident Response Program, Statewide Disaster Assistance Network and Criminal Justice Scholarships. The position also involves grant research, policy research, project management, and training classes. The position reports to the Deputy EVP and assists the Association’s other team members as needed.

Essential duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Supervise the Records Management team responsible for daily data entry for the Statewide Misdemeanant Confinement Program.
  • Develop policy recommendations for the Statewide Misdemeanant Confinement Program and ensure the effective operation of the program.
  • Provide leadership, professional expertise, and direction to staff in the research and development of a comprehensive curriculum for the Sheriff’s Leadership Institute.
  • Monitor progress against program goals and ensure timely completion of tasks.
  • Proactively monitor boards, commissions and government agencies to ensure the continual development of the Statewide Misdemeanant Confinement Program.
  • Research and identify federal, state, and private grant funding opportunities and resources to support Association projects.
  • Supervise the development of grant proposals in support of Association programs or special projects.
  • Manage and coordinate all facets of assigned programs to ensure objectives are met.
  • Review, analyze and evaluate training class evaluation feedback as requested by the Manager – Conference/Meetings/Sheriffs’ Leadership Institute.
  • Assists the Deputy Executive Vice President with special projects.

Education Requirement: Minimum of a four-year college degree

Requirements Include:

  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience in Criminal Justice
  • Prior management experience required

  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills

  • Manage deadlines
