Job Description and Responsibilities
The Coordinator – Criminal Justice Programs is responsible for the overall oversight of all criminal justice programs, which includes the Courthouse Security Program, Traumatic Incident Response Program, Statewide Disaster Assistance Network, and Criminal Justice Scholarships. The position also involves policy research, project management, and training classes. The position reports to the Deputy Executive Vice President and assists the Association’s other team members as needed.
Essential duties include, but are not limited to:
- Coordinates the research and development of a comprehensive curriculum for all Association Leadership Institutes
- Coordinates the agendas and instructors for the Spring Meeting, Annual Business Conference, and Fall Meeting
- Coordinates the activities of the Association’s Training Committee
- Coordinates all facets of assigned programs to ensure objectives are met.
- Reviews, analyzes and evaluates training class evaluation feedback regarding training instructors
- Drafts, reviews, and edits monthly criminal justice programs reports for the Executive Committee
- Coordinates the Traumatic Incident Response Program, including ordering U.S. burial flag, mourning bands, display case, $1,000 prepaid debit card, and coordinating with the NC Department of Administration to have NC flag flown over the State Capitol
- Coordinates with NCSA staff and sheriff’s offices the formatting, reviewing, editing, and sending of courthouse security assessment reports
- Assists with researching issues and policies related to the Office of the Sheriff and the criminal justice system in North Carolina
- Coordinates the NCSA Scholarship program, along with the North Carolina State Education Assistance Authority (NCSEAA) and the North Carolina Independent Colleges and University (NCICU). This includes detailed communication with financial aid offices, NCSEAA and NCICU to make sure the program runs smoothly and scholarship awardees are promptly paid
- Assists the Deputy Executive Vice President with special projects.
- Assists co-workers as necessary and performs any additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education Requirements: Minimum of a four-year college degree or equivalent experience.
Required Skills:
- Minimum 3 – 5 years experience in Criminal Justice
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and candidly
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
- Outstanding oral and written communication skills
- Ability to prioritize, actively seek input, and problem solve
- Ability to coordinate projects and adhere to deadlines
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, database, email, and internet for research purposes
- Self-starter
- Ability to deliver effective and engaging presentations to a variety of audiences
- Ability to adhere to our Association’s professional standards and core values
Supplemental Information:
The work is typically preformed in an office while sitting, standing, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects, weighing up to 20 pounds.
