Officer Assistance Network

What is the Officer Assistance Network?

The NCSA’s Officer Assistance Network (OAN) is a legal services plan provided by the North Carolina Sheriffs’ Association at no cost to law enforcement officers who are involved in a use of force incident that is being investigated by the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI).

Who Qualifies?

OAN is available to all state and local law enforcement officers in the state of North Carolina, including deputy sheriffs, police officers, sworn personnel of the State Highway Patrol (SHP), Alcohol Law Enforcement (ALE), Wildlife, Marine Fisheries, the SBI, and all other state and local law enforcement officers.

What Does OAN Do?

If you are involved in a use of force incident investigated by the SBI, the OAN will connect you with an attorney that will meet with you and be present during any statements provided to the SBI. The attorney will provide legal counsel up to the point you provide a formal statement to the SBI or decide that you will not be providing such a statement.

If you are eligible for legal counsel through OAN and are involved in a use of force incident being investigated by the SBI, call 1-800-WANT-LAW (800-926-8529) any time 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year for assistance.
