Job Description and Responsibilities

The North Carolina Sheriffs’ Association is a non-profit organization that represents the 100 Sheriffs of North Carolina and their personnel.  We are looking for a team member who is very detail-oriented and who can multi-task in a very fast paced, busy office.  We are also looking for someone with a sincere commitment to excellence and the success of the Association, as well as respect for the constitutional Office of Sheriff and the persons holding the Office.

The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting the Association’s Controller.  Concurrently, the position is accountable for working collaboratively with Association staff on on-going projects and programs.  This position reports to the NCSA Controller and assists the Association’s other team members, as needed.

Essential Duties include, but are not limited to:

Accounting and Finance Responsibilities:

  • Review credit card receipts, alert staff credit card holders when bill is received
  • Record credit card receipts, EFTs, and bank deposits in QuickBooks
  • Assemble the credit card statement with receipts and deliver to Chief of Staff
  • Maintain records of bills to be paid and tracks accounts receivable
  • Prepare payment requests to pay Association bills twice a month
  • Maintain daily online store sales spreadsheet
  • File Quarterly Sales Tax Payable Online Store Sales
  • File Semi-Annual Sales Tax Refund Receivable
  • Record journal entries for returned checks and deposit discrepancies
  • Reconciliation of the US Attorney Office accounts
  • Reconciliation of Honorary Membership account
  • Prepare QuickBooks reports for review by Controller
  • Assist co-workers as necessary and perform any additional duties as assigned
  • Assist the Controller with projects as necessary

Qualifications:

Education Requirement: 4-year accounting degree with relevant experience

Skills Required:

  • Knowledge and proficiency with QuickBooks required
  • Demonstrated collaborative skills and ability to work well within a team
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and solve problems
  • Strong organization and interpersonal skills
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures
  • Ability to adhere to our Association’s professional standards and core values
  • Ability to perform other related duties as assigned

Supplemental Information:

The work is typically preformed in an office while sitting, standing, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects, weighing up to 20 pounds.
