The Onslow County Sheriff’s Office has received a $40,000 grant to help create a dedicated task force of detectives whose focus will be on cases involving domestic violence, children, sexual violence and the elderly.
The new task force will be called the Special Victims Unit.
Previously, Maj. Chris Thomas said, all detectives worked on a rotation basis. No matter the type of call that came in, whoever was on call would be assigned to that case from start to finish. By opening the SVU, Thomas said the detectives will be able to focus on specific cases. The SVU will also streamline information to and from other organizations, like the Child Advocacy Center and Onslow Women’s Center.
