The North Carolina Sheriffs’ Association will conduct its annual training on the Statewide Misdemeanant Confinement Program (SMCP) in order to update sheriff’s office personnel on processing inmates into the SMCP, out-of-jail medical care, reimbursement policies, and other related legislative changes such as housing for eligible Drive While Impaired (DWI) offenders.
In order to participate as a “receiving” county in the SMCP for the upcoming calendar year, a sheriff’s office must send at least one representative to one of the annual training classes. Counties participating as a “sending” county are encouraged to send at least one representative to one of the annual training classes as well. Sheriffs may also invite judges, the Clerk of Court, and other court personnel to this training.
